Piroxicam beta-cyclodextrin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to relieve pain, swelling, and inflammation associated with various conditions such as arthritis, menstrual cramps, and injuries. It is a complex formed by the association of the drug piroxicam with beta-cyclodextrin, a cyclic oligosaccharide composed of seven glucose units linked by alpha-1,4 bonds. The complexation with beta-cyclodextrin increases the solubility and bioavailability of the drug, and it is also reported to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
